Mike Armstrong - Future Trainee and Vacation Scheme Attendee

What departments did you spend your Vacation Scheme in?

I spent the first week of my vacation scheme in the Private Client department, and the second week in Litigation.

What work were you involved in and what did you gain from your experience? Did the scheme meet your expectations?

I was provided with a wide variety of different tasks. While sitting in the Private Client department these ranged from proof-reading wills and trust agreements, to carrying out some research into how the Russian tax system operates. During my time in Litigation, I was given some drafting and I also accompanied trainees to lodge applications at the Royal Courts of Justice.

I took part in several vacation schemes, and my experience at Forsters really stood out. Everyone was extremely approachable and took the time to explain what their jobs involved, as well as to make sure that I was given stimulating tasks. I felt like I came away from the scheme with a real insight into the type of work on offer at the firm.

What were your impressions of Forsters' socially, overall and location wise?

Forsters is a very welcoming firm, and everyone I encountered made a real effort include us in the firm's social life. I was invited to go for drinks after work in the Punch Bowl, as well as being encouraged to participate in one of the regular softball matches in Hyde Park. (Thankfully, the emphasis was definitely on participation!) I was even invited to the party to celebrate the firm's tenth anniversary, which was held on the terrace. Mayfair is significantly more tranquil than the City, while Forsters' stylish offices quickly dispel any lingering fears that the firm may be hidebound by tradition.

What were the main deciding factors that made you choose Forsters to train at?

I initially applied for the vacation scheme as I was interested in property and private client work and wished to gain further experience of these practice areas. A career at Forsters is a particularly appealing prospect as the firm offers challenging and high calibre work on the one hand, while maintaining a friendly and relaxed working culture at the same time. Having spent two weeks at Forsters, I knew that it was that right place for me.
